Jonah was a prophet called by God to warn the people of Nineveh to repent. Jonah was reluctant to do this and fled on a ship going in the opposite direction. The ship hit rough weather, and a storm threatened the safety of the ship and all onboard. Jonah admitted that he was the cause because he had gone against God’s will. He was thrown overboard and was swallowed by a huge fish. He spent three days inside the fish, praying for mercy – and God released him from the fish. Jonah then went to Nineveh to tell the people about God’s warning. They repented and God spared the city.
